The tropical climate of Paraty is hot and sunny, with humid summers and very warm winters. Being part of Brazil, a country sited within the Southern Hemisphere, the seasons of Paraty are opposite of those countries located to the north of the equator.

Summer can be quite humid, with December to March forming the rainy season. February tends to be the wettest month of the year in Paraty, ensuring that the famous rainforests remain lush and verdant. Rainfall usually arrives in late afternoon and although showers can be extremely heavy, quickly flooding roads, any rainy weather is usually short-lived, meaning that there will still be plenty of sunshine around for a day or two of sightseeing.
Being located right next to the South Atlantic Ocean, those spending time sunbathing on the beaches of the Costa Verde area will find that the high temperatures are often cooled by refreshing trade winds. Tourists frequently choose to visit Paraty between May and August, when the climate is at its most pleasant and temperatures average around 26°C / 79°F. However, if you are planning an excursion into the mountains of Itatiaia, do be aware that it will feel much colder.
